Stoke-on-Trent is famous for its potteries and what better way to relax after a day of browsing the museums and factory tours, than with a hearty steak and kidney pie or a roast? Stoke’s dining scene is predominantly traditional British fare which is filling and great value for money.

There are two local specialities worth looking out for. Firstly, tasty Staffordshire Oatcakes (also known as Potteries Oatcakes) are sold all around the city. They look a bit like pancakes and are either served hot or cold, with sweet or savoury fillings. Secondly, Staffordshire Lobby, which was originally the staple food of struggling potters. It’s fairly similar to Lancashire hotpot, consisting of a tender meat and root vegetable stew.

The suburb of Hanley is a good place to head to for food, and it’s handily close to the Regent Theatre. There are many decent restaurants in Stoke dotted along Albion Street, Stafford Street and Piccadilly. Takeaways are also popular in Stoke and you can order anything you fancy, with a wide choice of Indian, Chinese, Pizza, Thai and Lebanese on offer.
