It's a few weeks since my visit to The Potting Shed. I visited mid afternoon on a Saturday and the cafe was pretty busy and a hive of activity with people enjoying both lunches, drinks and afternoon teas. There was a wide selection of people there ranging from young children to older people. There was a choice of two areas to sit in, either downstairs on some leather sofas or upstairs in more formal seating area.
The food seemed a little pricey for what it was. On this visit I had a 'mezze plate' which was a plate of ham, cheese, olives, salad and bread. It cost a tenner and for that price I'd have expected marinated olives rather than briney tasting ones. The ham and cheese were both really nice, but, there was a lot of ham that in all honesty I was quite bored of eating it and left about a quarter.
The coffee was nice and the staff were excellent, really professional (moreso than you'd expect from a cafe) attentive and had obviously been trained well.

I visited the Potting Shed this week with my sister; we were on the hunt for some pretty 'countryside' photos for a work project and the trails surrounding the Pot House Hamlet provided those. To prepare for our trek we stopped in for lunch; and it was good timing apparently as the waitress told us they had just started a new menu this week. The main courses looked lovely (next time I go I'm going to have the Venison sausage and potatoes), but we decided to go for two of the hot sandwiches as we'd been told the chips that come with them are amazing. The choice was incredible, my sister took forever to decide!, but we opted for the Brie, Bacon and Mushroom sandwich and the Beef and onion sandwich. They were delicious, it's the only place i've been to that makes a sandwich feel like a real treat! After dinner we went for a walk and then decided to pop back to the cafe to warm up with a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake - the chocolate brownie was to die for. I was really impressed with The Potting Shed; as the friend who recommended it to me said - 'you just don't expect places like this to exsist in Barnsley'! The atmosphere was lovely and the waitress who served us was so friendly. I took home a menu for their Valentines night and am dropping hints to my boyfriend about that! The manager also told me they're making plans for special evenings for St Patrick's and Mother's Day too. Can't wait to see what it's like in the evening, but in the mean time i'd definitely recommend it for lunch to all who read this... I hope I've managed to tempt you!

Called into the Potting Shed recently after a tip off from a friend who recommended it following a recent change in ownership of the place. I was very impressed! The weather was cold, but the welcome was warm - and the food was heavenly! I visited around midday on Sunday; some were having brunch (which looked yummy - shame I had already had breakfast!), some were making a start on lunch and others had simply called in mid-'ramble' (or even mid-horseride!) for a coffee and pastry by the warmth of the roaring fire. I was there for lunch: Fish and chunky home made chips for me, roast duck sandwich for another, home made burger for another (the size of it!!), and beautifully made fish cakes for the last of us. The portions were hearty and the presentation was amazing, and this was furthermore extended to the desserts (where you'll struggle to choose just one!).
I also took the opportunity to check out the Potting Shed's set menu for the evenings running up to Christmas and made a booking there and then for the extended family (amazingly priced by the way!). I cannot wait to return in December.

Fantastic! Myself and the family ate at the cafe on the 9/10/10,From our understanding the cafe has had some new owner's.The food was faultless and was fresh, vibrant and excellent value for money. Myself opted for a Potting Shed burger(pink) was truley to die for juicy, very tasty and on a homemade seeded bun the chips handcut and again brilliant. My wife had the haddock and chips,Was not what i excepted it was far better than what i thought! It came on a plate and the fish was well cooked, juicy inside, great flavour and with a side order of pea purree(not dry like most places),"the peas alone were great"homemade tarte sauce and the homemade chunky chips.Any body that goes to the Potting Shed should try the haddock and chips. We did not attempt the dessert's as we were all full, but the dessert's we saw look fantastic!will be back soon for a dessert.
The staff were all very friendly and overall the staff were very good, can not wait to return

DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT WITH CHILDREN. Whilst visiting this restaurant today with my niece and 2 young children, I found myself in the most horrendous situation. The waitress allocated to our table was extremely rude, unfriendly to the extent that she kicked a toy tray belonging to the restaurant out of her way. When her service and attitude did not improve with the delivery of our drinks, I went to see the Manager to express my concern about the waitress. He was very courteous and apologised and said he would deal with the situation. NEVER did I then expect the said waitress to march across a full restaurant and start shouting at me in front of my two young children. I was very shocked and embarrassed by the whole situation and more fool me for staying to finish our meal. I asked to see the owner and whilst she apologised, I was not even offered a complementary drink for our upset. STILL IN SHOCK AND VERY DISAPPOINTED BY THE WHOLE SITUATION AND THE WAY IT WAS HANDLE. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE.
