When we arrived (6pm) two types of meat had already run out and the beef was nearly finished the only dish left being gammon. Plates cold. Rhubarb and apple crumble dessert (although not much fruit in evidence) served with a tablespoon of yellow rubber custard. A colleague at the same time sitting with another party complained about the custard and was charged extra for the replacement custard. Service slow, waiter unhelpful and hostile when these points were raised. In the two hours we were there at no time were any tables cleared.

Plates cold food warm, lots of food not available,no lamb, no ham, no ice cream, no cream, shall I go on. Served coffee waited 5 mins for milk bought in cup because jugs were in dish washer. Only 6 people in pub 4 of which were us. Wine warm not been put in fridge. Waiter done nothing but apologise all through lunch.

Will not recommend and will not be going back.

5 of us had our Christmas Dinner here 25/12/2012, two being elderly cantakerous men and guess what: not one complaint from any because the food was fantastic, staff fantastic, could not do enough, including lovely Lynne for letting me add my father in law at the last minute, carol the carvery chef was wonderful as was Colin the landlord, who greeted everyone at their table, and the young girls who worked so hard, always smiling, serving and asking if all ok, the girl who served our table, was dressed as a Christmas pudding and was great and very efficient...our first Christmas dinner away from our comfort zone, but we were so well treated, will return soon! First time in the George too but not the last by a long shot!

Went here 2 weeks ago with my wife and 2 friends, the food was excellent.

We met the new Manager Colin and he was fantastic, he gave us his full attention throughout our stay and we had a laugh, We travelled from the West Midlands and stayed at the Premier Inn on our way to Paris.

The staff were busy so he looked after us throughout our stay, we also had breakfast which was a bit disappointing but the night before was excellent well worth the visit. look forward to our return in 2 weeks.

Avoid avoid avoid !!!!! Do not go here unless you have a pot of paint to watch dry, the service is diabolical the waiting staff rude. My advice is pay a little extra and go to the Beefeater or pay less and go to the Toby for your carvery. The food my partner and I managed to get was awful in the end we walked out. The staff set a very low standard and fail to achieve it.

We went here for fathers day, we were taken to our table at 4.15, and left there. I asked twice for someone to come to our table, and at 4,55 they order our starters, and the 6 of us wish we didn't. We waited 20 minnutes again and the food wasn't very good - the soup had to go back. We had to keep getting up 2 get things like spoons & forks. Because we waited so long I asked if when we finished out starter may we go and get our carvery, which we did and was told there was no veg and could we sit back down. 1 of us ordered the fish and chips which we wanted to come out when we went up for ours, that was a waste of time, my son had nearly finished his b4 we got to go up.

There were a few tables that afternoon who weren't happy, and the chef came and spoke to them, my son said the fish was nice, for our dinner, the meat and gravy was nice but that about it. The roast potatoes were black, no carrots as they were not put out because they were too hard, the new potatoes were like bullets, rest of the veg was dry, i would never go back again.

Sunday 10th June arrived 7.00pm drinks were served soon enough. Ordered 4 meals from the menu at 7.10 waited until 8 o'clock and asked twice what had happened to our food which was served soon after. No complaints about the food but the service was appalling I don't think waiting for almost an hour is acceptable when the place was not busy at all. We will not be going back in the near future unless its just for a pint of ale.

Since being under new management a while ago, it is fantastic, the staff are very friendly and make us very welcome, we go at least every two weeks, never had any problems with the food it is good value for money. Would recommend.

Have been there many times, food has always been fantastic, service has never been great but you can't expect everything especially when you look at the prices. I think it represent very good value.

Thought our last visit was a one off but today was the same very little
meat offered and very fatty. Vegetables were all dried up, the only thing
nice about the meal was the roast potatoes. Definately wont be going
    again

Sunday 26th June. We have eaten at this restaurant for a number of years and this was the worst meal we have had. In fact it was the worst meal we have had anywhere in a long time. The bottle of white wine we ordered was plonked on the table and we managed to get served with a starter and main but then it was as though none of the staff could be bothered. The chips were soggy and the steak was dry and tough. We were completley ignored and had to go to the counter to ask for a steak knife. No one came to ask if we would like a sweet menu. Eventually we gave up and had to go to the counter to ask to pay the bill, we had to wait ages as there was no staff around. Definite waste of money.
