Tamasha in Bromley prides itself on offering true Indian hospitality alongside great food from and inspired by the Indian subcontinent.

Example dishes cooked by the restaurant's Indian-trained chefs include ajwaini jhinga (king prawns with caraway seed, cooked in the Tandoor oven) and punjabi gosht (lamb in a rich sauce of onions, garlic, garam masala). The menu also features ingredients not often found in Indian restaurants such as rabbit and lobster.

The restaurant has a spacious feel to it with rattan chairs set around large tables with white linen tablcloths and photographs from around India during the times of the Raj decorating the walls.

There is a separate bar ("The Cricket Bar") again decorated with photos and the restaurant's collection of cricket memorabilia which includes a signed bat belonging to West Indian cricket legend Viv Richards.

The restaurant has live music on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings and on Sundays lunchtimes offers a buffet with entertainment for children.

The restaurant's upstairs dining room, The Durbar Hall, can be booked as a private dining room, offering seating for up to 80 diners. In addition, Tamasha offers hotel accommodation, conferencing facilities, events & outside catering (for up to 1000 guests).

Reservations are recommended.

I've eaten at Tamasha a few times and always had a great evening. There's a (very small) bar for a pre-dinner drinks - try the Mongoose beer, it's nice and I've not come across it elsewhere.

The food is really good, I particularly enjoyed the aloo methi ki subzi (potatoes with fenugreek leaves) it went really well with the lamb dish I had. The service is brilliant too.

As the other reviewers have said, this place isn't cheap - but the quality of the food, the nice surroundings and the great staff do make it good value for money. A great place for a celebration meal.

Definitely not your average curry house. The restaurant is full of photos from the times of the British Raj. The menu is different too, lots of dishes you just don't see on other menus. I had a delicious rich lamb dish, Punjabi Gosht on my last visit which is one of the best things I've had there. The staff are brilliant as well, attentive and professional.

My favourite Indian restaurant, one I'll keep going back to (just wish it was *slightly* cheaper!).

I have been to this restaurant a couple of times now and it is one on my favourite places to eat locally, although it is not the cheapest place to go. My most recent visit was mid week and booked for 7 o’clock and booked for 5 people (3 adults and two 17 year olds) and we arrived about 5 minutes early; I had a feeling that the place had just opened as there was no one in the restaurant part so we were shown to the bar. The bar area is very small and I do think that they left us there a little too long, I felt the same way on our first visit too, but it is pleasant enough and the bartender was knowledgeable (enough to warm the glass for a Hennessy XO).

Décor wise I cannot fault it I feel that I have been transported back to colonial India every time I visit and it all adds to the feel good factor of the establishment. Staff are very attentive too you a greeted at the door by a guy in traditional Indian dress and the waiters are available but not smothering.

When it came to be seated our drinks were taken for us to the table and we were left for an ideal amount of time to choose our food and I have to say that the food is delicious, especially the mains. I had a starter both times that I have been and the first time I found it to be ok taste wise, although excellently cooked, and this time the starter was delicious (BBQd scallops with spices). Everybody had different main courses and all were cooked to perfection, a friend who came with us was unsure of what to have and a waiter suggested something off menu which my friend said was excellent.

Service was excellent throughout the meal, we had different waiters but never felt mobbed. The drinks menu was very good and we chose an excellent Chablis and a Barolo (£39 and £35 respectively) to go with it although you can have beers, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks if you desire. I don’t really think it is a place for young kids there have been none there on both of my visits.

The service charge was included in the bill and I think it was made up of 12.5% which was fine for me as I thought it was top draw service and food, value for money is a tough one as it depends on ones outlook, I think overall it is slightly expensive for us the bill came to £350 including the service charge, although £74 of that was on wine, my friend had a couple of Hennessey XO at £12.50 a shot (gulp), and we all had two or three drinks each. Only two people had starters, and we all had a speciality coffee at the end which is flambéed in front of you these are £6.45 each (£32.25 in total), so the meal itself would have been £254.75 (minus the coffee, 2x XO’s and 1 bottle of wine) which would work out to just over £50 per person, personally I think this is worth the extra money but you can eat for much less than that if you don’t go mad like I/we tend to when we are there.

Finally we were offered (and took) complimentary drinks at the end and you were not really limited to what we could have, a cocktail was ordered and couple of baileys and two Hennessy VSOP’s.

I think this restaurant is good for a treat or a special occasion away from young children, I would budget for around £40/£55 per person including wine but the atmosphere, service and food will make it a favourite place to visit.
