Shahbhag have been serving Bangladeshi food from their Hanpstead restaurant since 1954, making it one of the oldest Indian restaurants in London and the oldest in the North West.

On the menu you'll find the usual Bangladeshi/Indian curry house favourites along with some less common chef's specials. Examples of these specials being Boro Chingri Malai - king prawns cooked in a mild, creamy coconut milk based sauce; a medium-hot Kashmiri style Hyderabadi curry (with prawns, lamb or chicken); and Bombay Fish - cooked with tamarind, spices, garlic and curry leaves. For diners who like a variety there are vegetarian and non-vegetarian Thali's available which include a variety of curries along with bread, rice, pickles and raita.

The restaurant also offers takeaway and delivery services - delivery is free on orders over £18 or a 10% discount on orders which are collected. Alternative phone number - 020 7435 1077.

Really delicious meal. I don't usually write reviews but I felt compelled to as I was so impressed. Even my fussy kids were delighted. The service was attentive, draft beer was ice cold and bathrooms were spotless. Can't wait to go back!

A rude condescending waiter who called himself the senior waiter, was asked to lay the cutlery, (rather than leave it by the side of each dinner plate, replied “We are not slaves you know” and went on to say that he does not lay tables when he is rushed (restaurant was not crowded). Manager eventually stepped in to help, but this rudeness and condescending manner was the worst that I and my family have ever experienced. If you do not wish to experience rudeness and mediocre food - STAY WELL AWAY.

Literally the WORST place I have ever had to go to. The waiter was racist. I am Indian and an INDIAN waiter told me he 'only serves British people'. I was disgusted. They kept pressurising me to order a main when my friend was the one who was hungry at 11.30pm and wanted to eat. I ordered a started. I go to the best and finest restaurants in London. To Gaylord, Bombay Brassierie, Nobu, Zuma, Sumosan you name it. I thought I'd try and be local. And they charged 50 pence for chutney. The funny thing too is that this restaurant was EMPTY. Not a single other customer. We had also driven by earlier that evening and no one was there so you think they would have been grateful for any service. SO disgusted at this place and hope it closes down soon. Karma is a bitch.
