Five of us visited this establishment on the Isle Of Bute, Friday 12th April 2013, recommended to us by a friend who in hindsight obviously hated us. We were the only clients in the two and a half hours we were there. The bar had practically no stock, which should have been a warning. We were presented with the Menu, which was a sheet of A4 paper in a plastic poly-pocket. Warning No 2. There was a choice of two starters, Two main Courses, and Two Sweets. Warning No 3. But being recommended we decided to continue. One of the starters was Cabbage Soup, which was barely warm and practically tasteless, For the main course we had supposedly Russian Goulash, which was pork in a sort of vegetable puree, The homemade sweet had a suspicion it could have been bought in any high street cheap store, The Lemon Sorbet, again might have been bought anywhere. We were assured the meals were freshly prepared as we waited. We had two drinks each. Our meals were passed over the bar, and we had to pass them round the table ourselves. It was so bad it was actually comical. But what wasn't so funny was the extortionate bill we were presented with, for absolutely crass food and service. This has been the worst dining experience of our lives.
I would not recommend anyone to visit this place, we certainly will never go back.
If YOU do, don't say you haven't been warned.

Had to leave a review for this place, it's so unusual, particularly on a Scottish island. An old pub by the sea at Port Bannatyne is run by a Russian family who serve the fine cuisine that was traditional before the Revolution and use the best of Scottish produce to achieve it! Very different from the Russian restaurants I've tried in Glasgow and London. For a start they bake the fresh fish landed by the fishing boats that tie up outside their door. There's also crab, crayfish, scallops, mussels, and razor clams.
They make their own bread, and Hunters' sausages from Red Deer and free-range pork. The beef is aged highland beef which is simply the best.
So, really good food in the old Russian style with a good selection of Russian beers, wines and vokas, and all in a cosy tavern with Russian curtains and tapestries, fireplace, piano and wild flowers. Sit looking out over the sea chatting to visitors from all over while eating the best.
My family and I havn't enjoyed a meal out like this since we were in Italy, and that cost very much more. Try it!
