Have eaten at Route 22 for best part of a decade and before it was closed for a refurb (which was pointless) the food was fantastic. Home cooking at its best, original in every way proper coke, Heinz sauces the works. After the refurb some of the charm had gone, the originals replaced with cheap subs and the kids were never able to watch the tv's again as the headphones would never work properly. The last meal we ate here was possibly one of the worst dining experiences of my life the food I wouldn't ever feed to our dog. That was the best part of 2 years ago and I have been amazed that the place has still stayed trading since then.
However at a loose end last weekend my children asked if we could go and I was shocked after not wanting to go just how much better the food was close to the old days. The burger was homemade and was flavoursome, proper heinz sauces again it was great. I really hope this wasn't a flash in the pan as the kids and us used to love this place

Popped into Route 22 today for first time, I'm a delivery driver and need food on the go. I was very impressed with the standard of service and my full English which was very nice. And I have to say it was made even better by the most gorgeous waitress you could ever want to see, blonde hair and when she bent down omg WOW.

DISGUSTED with every aspect of Route 22. On arrival there were a few tables taken, but nothing that a capable chef shouldnt be able to cope with. Ordered our (very expensive) food. Twenty mins after waiting,a family of 3 arrived and joined the already large table, who were also awaiting their food. It turned out that the family of 3 were late, and rudely asked the waitress to bring their food out with the rest of the party, which the waitress done. Lets face it,if they wanted to eat with the rest of the table they should have arrived on time?! We waited 40mins,in which our 2 year old daughter had to wait for her lunch. When we finally received our food,we were quite shocked. £7.99 for a burger, which if you had of taken the salad out,was not alot bigger than a McDonalds. 'Homemade' coleslaw was blatantly not.My chicken burger had been deep fried and was awful. The icing on the cake was that when our plates were cleared, the grease left on the table where the plates obviously were not washed properly was everywhere.
Very sad, as we only go out to treat ourselves-this was not the case.

Have loved this place for years, always taken the children and in more recent years, the grandkids. Loved the atmosphere, the cooking and the fun. However, this week we went and what a huge disappointment!!
No music playing, no bar, no alcohol. Seven items on the menu not available and they ran out of coffee and had to pop to the local shop. They had only been open an hour, you would have thought they would have checked before hand.
The food was not great, the one’s who had the burgers said they enjoyed it, but a bit expensive for a burger bar I would say.
We paid £65 for main course meals for 3 adults, a starter as a main meal for one adult (as no veggie choices) and two childrens meals with one drink each. In contrast this week we paid £66 at the Harvester at the Sovereign Centre and had unlimited soft drinks, salad bar as starters, main course and ice cream puddings for the same amount of people.
The place has gone downhill there is no doubt. We certainly will not be back. What a shame. This was original and slightly out of the way and perfect for families, now it is a run down shack..
