After seeing Prashad in Bradford was appearing on Ramsays Best Restaurant this week, We thought we'd pay it a visit!

The restaurant was smaller than I had imagined but was fairly busy for a weekend lunchtime.

The waiter that welcomed us was very friendly and explained a little about the menu and made a few suggestions as to what we should choose. We opted for a mixed starter which was a selection of 8 starters. It was very nice but the waiter disappeared before explaining what everything was.

For main I chose a 'Hara Bara Burger and Massala Chips' which was 'mashed pea and cauliflower pate richly spiced and served in a burger with spicy chips. This wasn't something I'd usually go for in an Indian restaurant but it was nice. I do find myself wishing I'd chosen something else though as the other vegetable based curries looked really appetising.

Excellent value, 2 courses for 2 people with 2 rounds of drinks cost ~£30.

I visited Prashad in Bradford for sunday lunch yesterday. As a confirmed carnivore, eating vegetarian is never a decision I take lightly - especially for sunday lunch, but I do love vegetarian Indian food, and Prashad has a made a great name for itself both in Bradford and beyond.

On arrival at the small (22 cover) restaurant, we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our table and explained the menu; and the service throughout our meal remained excellent. I've marked the atmosphere down as it was perhaps a little quiet in there when we went - I am certain on a friday/saturday evening this wouldn't be the case.

To start with, we shared a mixed platter - a good selection of their starters, including some very good samosas, pea kachori and a delicious savoury sponge cake - dhokra. Also worth a mention are the chutneys that were served with the poppadoms - the lemon pickle was excellent, sweet, sour and spicy.

To follow, I had a 'Bhinda', a Gujarati style Okra curry an a garlic naan. The Okra curry was good - nicely spiced and finished with some fresh coriander. My only criticism of the food would be the naan bread, which was every so slightly 'doughy'; perhaps as it was cooked in a regular oven rather than a tandoor.

Prashad are appearing on Gordon Ramsay's "Best Restaurant" show tomorrow night - they deserve to do well.

All in all, a great meal - I'm looking forward to going back and trying their Dosa's which looked great. The Deli next door is with a visit too, especially if you're a fan of Indian sweets.
