Well it's been quite a few years since hubby and I last visited The Lord Moreton restaurant. We first visited the establishment when it opened a few years ago and at the time, were both less than impressed with the food, the service and the price which we paid. But.... we had read a review in the local paper regarding new management, new carvery etc so thought we would give them a second chance. After all, nothing stays the same does it ? what once may have been in our opinion, dire, could only improve.
So...... we ventured back and what a change.. We had booked a table ahead for 1 oclock and arrived about 12.40 pm. The Car Park was packed, always a good sign. We walked into the bar area ready to order a drink before lunch, to be met by a very pleasant young lady who asked if we had booked lunch. We said yes and she asked if we would like to go to our table straight away and she would then take our order for drinks once we were seated. She showed us to our table in a huge light, airy but warm conservatory room where we had a lovely view of the garden. We ordered our drinks and she returned with them very quickly, accompanied by a menu which had a few lunch time meals and the Carvery price. Well we intended to sample the Carvery, so we made our way over. The choice of meats were fine, Roast Pork, Roast Beef or Roast Chicken. The quality was excellent and although the Carvery is £9.50 per person, slightly more than a normal Carvery price, quality is assured. What can I say about the vegetable selection. Well how often does one get offered creamy smooth mashed potato as a choice at a Carvery? along with 9 or 10 selections of vegetables, Roast potatoes, Huge Yorkshire puddings and yummee home made gravy. amazing !. We both thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and even decided to pig out and have a desert We both chose the Lemon Tart with Raspberry Coolee and whipped cream which arrived with fresh Strawberry on the top. Absolutely divine. and actually very cheap at only £2 or so for the desert. If one wanted 3-courses it was only £14.50 p.p so very reasonable.
All in all a very enjoyable meal, service was excellent with all waitresses/waiters smililng and chatting to the customers, very attentive but not intrusive. I would definitely go back there and recommend to others.
That was the pro's now very sorry to spoil things but here are the con's.
1. Pleeeeeeeeeeeease supply knives that one can cut their meat with,
we can be trusted to have a sharp knife you know, ours were so blunt, I was nervous each time I went to cut the generous portions of meat in case the food flew across the table.
2. What is it with Carverys' that they feel that the customer cannot be trusted with a plate not much larger than a side-plate? Do they really believe that we are going to pile that much food on if we are trusted with larger plates. May I please remind you that some people like to see the food on the plate and also space on the plate.
3. For the delicious Lemon Tart we were disappointed to be brought very large desert spoon and no fork. Would it not be possible to serve smaller spoon and definately a fork. We ended up chasing the tart around our plates with a large spoon and our finger. Not very nice.
Mind you, these are only little gripes and I can assure you that if you do visit the Carvery, you will thoroughly enjoy the meal. Hubby loved it and said he would like to go back again and believe me, he is fussy.
All in all, well done Lord Moreton,
