José is the first of José Pizarro’s own ventures in SE1. Previously working for the Spanish deli Brindisa in their restaurant as chef partner across their three London restaurants.
José is a proper tapas bar - as genuine as you’re going to get in the UK. It’s intimate and small and at busy times there’s standing room only with upturned barrels to eat your food from. The prices start at £3 for a bowl up olives going up to £9 for a plate of Jamón Ibérico and there is a daily specials board. Reservations cant be made so it’s just a case of arrive early or late, or be prepared to queue.
Pizarro is the second venture just up the road at 194 Bermondsey Street and is a more formal restaurant with larger portions.
