We metwith a group of old friends at Frogg Manor for a pre Christmas dinner. We had all travelled some distance to visit the restaurant as it had been highly recommended. We arrived early and walked in to an entrance that looked like a junk shop. With no-one around to greet us we wandered in the genreal direction of noise, up some steps and into a sitting room with huge settees and arm chairs, warm and welcolming. Unlike the waitress who appeared and informed us we would need to be speedy chosing from the menu. This before we had our preprandial drinks. We dutifully chose and sat back to enjoy our surroundings. There were frogs, models not real thank goodness, everywhere. Charming or just messy? Then we looked at the carpet which had obviously not been vacuumed for several days. We were promptly shown to our table in a charming room but again, either their cleaner was on holiday or their vacuum was broken as the carpet was dirty. The starters were okay, the main course was a poor attempt at "fine dining" three tiny new potatoes with half a carrot!! accompanied my shank of lamb, which was tough. Desserts were again okay and the wine palatable and not overpriced. The same cannot be said of the food. which we all felt while palatable, was grossly overpriced. The maitre D looked almost as unkempt as his carpet and the final indignity, when one of our party went through to enjoy the dancing, she was "attacked" by Bubbles, the owner's terrier, which snapped at her trousers. NOt a welcoming restaurant, pretentious and overpriced.
