Named after an area within Rio de Janeiro, Botafogo offers you freshly cooked meat on an 'all you can eat' basis. There are 7 cuts of meat to choose from including sirloin, chicken thighs and sausages. You're given a card with red and green sides; just turn your card to green and you'll be offered the meat, when red, you can take a break.
The price starts at £18.20 and includes pão de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), as much meat as you can eat and sides of chips/rice and Feijão (Brazilian black beans). Additional sides of green salad, coleslaw and sweet potato chips can be ordered but are not included in the price. If you're still hungry, there are a selection of desserts to choose from including sorbets, chocolate marquise and flan caramel.
Botafogo is right in the heart of Huddersfield on John William Street and is just a few minutes walk from both the bus and railway station. There isn't a car park, but there is plenty of street parking or town centre car parks locally.
The restaurant is on the site of Argento and is run by the same owners. Argento will re-open at a new location on March 2013.
The restaurant offers a 15% student discount (food only).

Made a second visit to Botafogo in the town centre this week as a treat for the kids (okay, more a treat for us). On both visits we have been really impressed by the food and service. Really impressed by the beef, which despite the style of restaurant is cooked to your liking. Almost as good as the beef were the chicken thighs, tender and full of flavour. Great value too, two adults and two kids absolutely stuffed - and happy for £80. Can't fault it.

Great place. I visited with my family a few weeks ago, and then returned last week with friends.
On both visits the staff were lovely and the food was brilliant - beef, sausages, chicken, pork ribs - all tender and delicious.
Can't praise it enough!

My family and I were regular diners at Argento, and when we saw it had been replaced by Botafogo we were a upset that our favourite restaurant in Huddersfield had gone. It wasn't until I read here that this new restaurant is owned by the same people that ran Argento and all the positive comments here and elsewhere that we decided to visit. The name, style and decor may have changed, but this is still the best place to get a steak in Huddersfield! Not only was the steak delicious, but so was every one of the 10 or so different cuts of meat bought to our table throughout the evening. I really couldn't fault our meal here and we left promising to return.

We had a family meal here for my son's birthday. It was his choice, and when he described it to me as an "all you can eat meat restaurant", I must admit I was mortified. It conjured up images of a some dodgy buffet place with substandard food. Nothing could have been further from the truth - Botafogo certainly isn't like that!
The food was brilliant, the various cuts of meat they bought out were all moist, well cooked and flavoursome. The steak was as good as I've had anywhere in Yorkshire, I'd have been happy paying the £18 or so the meal cost just for a portion of that and the sides. It was not just the food that was good either, the service was spot on too - warm, welcoming and efficient.
Six of us ate a delightful (and huge) meal, with plenty of wine and other drinks for a little under £150 - great value. We had a wonderful evening, and won't hesitate to return or recommend this restaurant to friends.

Loved it. Perfect food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Been twice, and will go many more times. The gammon and the chicken thighs are just delicious. The best restaurant in Huddersfield!

Had a perfect meal here with my family - the kids absolutely loved it! Friendly serving staff, brilliant food (so much meat!) and a sensible price. Can't fault it, we'll be regulars.

My parents took me and the family here when visiting them in Huddersfield over Christmas. What a great place! We usually turn our noses up at anything that sounds like an "all you can eat" place, but this is different - the food is wonderful!!

We've been to Botafogo twice, and both times we've had a great evening.
The food is superb. I've been to this style of restaurant before and they have tried to do too much, but at Botafogo they've kept it simple and done everything really well. There are seven cuts of meats (plus it seems, some occasional specials) and each one we've tried has been cooked brilliantly - the steak is lovely and rare in the middle (don't worry if you prefer it more well done, they'll give you a bit from the outside). The appetisers and sides which are included in the price are good too.
As others here have mentioned, the staff are great too - they seem genuinely enthusiastic and were really helpful throughout.
At a few pennies over £18 per person, I think it's really good value for money too.
Well worth a visit.

Just brilliant. I went this weekend with a group of friends for a Christmas meet-up and everyone of us had a great evening.
The food was perfect, the meat was cooked perfectly with the fillet steak being the best I've in any restaurant. The side orders of black beans, chips and rice were all delightful too. Unlike some "all you can eat" places, there as no pressure on us to hurry our meal and they brought plenty of meat to our tables throughout the evening.
As per the previous reviewers, I'd like to thank the waiting staff: they were lovely, cheerful and so helpful... they made our evening a real joy.
The restaurant has been decorated really nicely too, but the toilets could do with a bit of an update as well! (a minor detail).
I heartily recommend this restaurant, for my money it's the best place to eat in Huddersfield right now.

After I'd heard Argento's, previously my favourite restaurant in Huddersfield, was changing, I was very concerned. But Botafogo exceeded every expectation I had. An incredible array of meats, excellent service. This restaurant has such potential. I have absolutely no complaints, and commend the staff and bosses for such a good idea!
