Wednesday 9th January 2013 - I went to Bills Produce Store. My 2nd visit to this Branch in Lewes (1st visit was last year-I did a review of that time as well).
When I arrived today it was nearly 11.30am and I was given the choice of where I'd like to sit by the Waiting/Table Staff. Having been informed that some parts of the restaurant get rather hot. Where I sat was near bar/till end and it was perfect temperature.
The Toilets - to get to - just walk through centre of bar-which is open. The loos are cleanest I've seen so far in East Sussex.
Bear in mind that the Breakfast Menu goes up to noon (after this time you can order from the Lunch Menu). This suited me fine today. There is also Afternoon Tea available-set times for which is highlighted on board outside menu & indoor/inhouse menu.
I ordered Bubble&Squeak Mustard Mash with Fried Eggs, Ham & Hollandaise Sauce - it was absolutely delicious! Just one small thing-towards end of eating ran out of sauce-so would have preferred a bigger helping of sauce. I mentioned to waitress I very happy with food-but ran out of sauce. She said I could have asked for me. I didn't like to as thought it maybe seen as me being greedy-I just love oomph&moistness to my food-so I know for future reference. Waitress explained some people ask for oodles more than myself-mine was a minor/small request.
Price of this food £7.50p.
Also requested as my drink - Fresh Carrot, Orange & Ginger Juice.
Total price of this drink (small one=regular) £2.95p delicious once again! The waitress stopped me just before I started to drink it and said it wasn't up to par - so a new concotion was being made and I'd have fresh glass of-which I did-it was delicious. I had this drink when first visited.
A Large drink costs £3.95p. Very refreshing at any time.
Bill can be paid by Visa/Credit Card or Cash. Gratuities (tips are added onto bill). If you wish to personally add any more you can do to make a bigger tip.
Staff are very welcoming, professional and friendly. I also asked for advice regards nearest public loos/banks/shops/places of interest etc. and a member of staff who knows area like back of their hand-drew me a little map and it was very easy to follow. I bashed into them after I'd gotten some shopping and they asked me if the map helped. I said it did and it made me feel clued up on Lewes area. There are plenty of banks/charity shops/boutique shops/delicatessen/pet shopcake shops/sports shops/miscellaneous shops/lighting/antique shops/hairdressers/Argos/Boots Chemist/Waitrose/Lewes Information Centre which is located opposite the Cheese If You Please Shop. Bear in mind walking around once you've negotiated the little bit of a steep uphill walk-its then relatively flat-likewise when going downhill.
There is Lewes Castle to visit - to which I will eventually see. Anne of Cleves (one of Henry Eigth's Wife Houses to visit) Sussex Archaeological Society.
Also The Chocolate Company (about 5 mins max from station is very nice and sells wonderful Chilli Chocolates-£2.95p per bag). Opposite is a cafe called The Limetree - a cup of Earl Grey costs £1.90p-regular size. Cosy little place and toilets located out back with lift up latch and pleasant to use once again.
Lewes is a nice place. Roughly cost from Eastbourne Station to Lewes Station used to be £7.10p Cheap Day Return Ticket-but prices gone up to £7.40p due to price hike 1st January 2013. Station is not too far away. There is a nice flower stall outside Lewes Station/Taxi Rank/Newsagents and few other little shops. There are as you walk up to the little crossing (once over bridge) a Chinese/Oriental Food Takeaway/Chemist/Alcoholic Drink Shop-Wine Sellers etc and pubs further up and down. Also a Superdrug/Fresh Bakers/Hospice (2nd hand items for sale). Quaint streets & shops-nice for a day trip out as always!
I've rated Bills Produce Store ***** 5 Star as its such a nice place. I particularly like the ad boards and items hung up. They sell fruit&veg also as condiments like salt&pepper and oils and string bags etc....
All very nice indeed! The 2 big bosses were there today - I recognised one of them from his cookbook straight away-he was keen for the right promotion of his goods to take centre stage. Also posh choccies sold.
To be fair its a very nice cookbook (the staff let me have a browse whilst waiting for my eats-but unfortunately I'm no Delia Smith-I cook for myself but nothing so wonderful as what he had for eg. Beetroot&Chocolate Cake-may sound weird-but looked divine and a gorgeous looking Rose Birthday Cake-if you can cook like this-Bon Appetit!

Bill's is one of my favourite places to eat (and shop) in Sussex.
As well as their usual menu, Bill's kitchen staff put together some excellent specials every day - generally served with a choice of salads. Similarly there is a daily choice of smoothies, juices and deserts. The food is always beautifully cooked and presented.
You'll need to be prepared to queue at busy times, but it's always worth the wait. The fact that it's always busy, and that seating is at shared 'canteen style' tables means there is always a great, friendly atmosphere. Looking enviously at others plates is totally acceptable.
