This week, Gordon puts two Thai restaurants, Nahm Jim in St. Andrews and London’s Mango Tree to the test. In what promises to be one of the most exciting shows yet, one of the restaurant staff threatens to call the police following a complaint from one of Gordon’s secret diners!

This episode was first shown on the Tuesday 12th October on Channel 4, and was repeated on More 4 on Sunday 17th October.

The restaurants

Nahm Jim in St. Andrews, Fife

Family run 110 seat Thai and Japanese restaurant Nahm Jim is at the heart of St. Andrews. Since opening it’s doors in 2002, Nahm Thai has become a firm favourite with locals, university students and of course visiting golfers. The kitchen has vegetables, herbs and spices delivered weekly from the food markets in Bangkok.

Mango Tree in Belgravia, London

Based in Belgravia, a stones throw from Buckingham Palace, Mango Tree is probably the capital’s best known Thai restaurant. Signature dishes include Som Tum (spicy green papaya salad) and Pad Ka Pow Pak (stir fried mixed vegetables with chilli and basil).

The dishes

Nahm Jim cooked chicken with oyster mushrooms and Thai holy basil.

Mango Tree cooked roast baby chicken with thai herbs, (“gai ob sa mon phrai”).

The result

Nahm Jim won the heat and will go through to the semi finals.
