Michelin reveals 2011 stars

Today saw the release of the 2011 edition of the Michelin guide to restaurants in Great Britain & Northern Ireland. This year sees a record number of stars awarded to UK restaurants, 143 restaurants in total have received stars – the highest in the 37 years the guide has issued awards in the UK.

However many industry figures and diners have questioned the lack of stars for restaurants such as L’Anima, Launceston Place and Koffmann’s. Claude and Claire Bosi’s restaurant, Hibiscus had also been widely expected to become the UK’s fifth three star restaurant, but has remained on two.

There were no new three star awards given this year, but two restaurants were awarded two stars by the guide this year bringing the total to sixteen:

 
Twelve restaurants were awarded one Michelin star, meaning the UK now has 123 restaurants with one star. The newly awarded restaurants are:

 
Excluding restaurants that have closed this year, 7 restaurants have lost their stars this year.
