Celebrating National Vegetarian Week at veggie restaurants

By dave at 21:30 on 26/05/2010

This week is the 18th annual National Vegetarian Week, running from Monday 24th to Sunday 30th. We’ve been busy adding some great veggie and vegan restaurants to our restaurant guide. Along the way, we spoke to a few of them asked them introduce their restaurant and tell us a little about how they are celebrating National Vegetarian Week…

First up is Kishor Joshi, Managing Director of Pardips Vegetarian Restaurant, Harrow where they are celebrating National Vegetarian Week by promoting their £4.90 Thali which comprises of a starter, 2 curries, bread, rice, a lentil soup and dessert:

“At Pradips, we know food. With more than 50 years experience, we create authentic Indian vegetarian cuisines using the finest ingredients. Many of our products have reduced sugar, salt and fat as a result of using natural ingredients, whilst still maintaining our high standards of quality and taste. We are not only highly skilled but are also innovative, creative and more importantly enthusiastic about cooking.”

Next, we spoke to Sylvia at unusual London restaurant, Rootmaster, near Brick Lane in London (you can book online at Rootmaster here):

“Rootmaster has been serving up delicious, organic vegan food for 3 years from inside an old London Routemaster bus. Popular with veggies and non veggies alike, our aim to show people how good vegan food can be and that you can enjoy meat free meals without feeling like you are missing out. We have always worked closely with PETA and are proud to be a part of National Vegetarian Week.”

We also heard from David Metcalfe, owner of eco-friendly restaurant The Green House in Tring, Hertfordshire where they are serving special tasting platters for National Vegetarian Week with tasters taken from their new summer menu:

“The Green House opened in November, 2008. It serves top quality international vegetarian and vegan cuisine using virtually all organic ingredients. This is all set on 3 floors in a grade 2 listed 17th century building, providing the perfect setting for a romantic dinner or a gathering of up to 80 persons.”

If you own a vegetarian friendly restaurant that’s not featured on our site, you can add your restaurant to our guide here. We’ve got another collection of interesting veggie restaurants lined up for later in the week, so be sure to check back then.
